RAJOURI Police on Tuesday arrested a constable in Manjakote area of Rajouri district and booked a group of men on the charge of fraud.
According to Rajouri Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yougal Manhas, an investigation into the case was lodged after several Manjakote residents complained that the suspects, who belonged to Rajouri, had convinced them to invest in a financial scheme run by them, promising to double their invested amount.
Later, they refused to return the money.
A case was registered under section 420 (cheating) of the IPC at the Manjakote police station.
“Police constable Iftkhar Ahmed, a resident of Salwah Mendhar and posted at Rajouri, was also found involved in it. He was asking people to invest in the scheme, the SSP said.
Efforts are on to nab the other suspects, the police officer added. Manhas appealed to people to check credentials of persons or companies offering such alluring schemes, before making investments. (PTI)
