SRINAGAR Special market-checking squad constituted here on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary undertook inspection of markets at Hazratbal area on Saturday.
The inspections were undertaken in efforts to ensure fair-pricing of commodities during the ensuing Me’raj ul Alam celebrations.
During the inspection, 8 traders were booked and fined 8500 rupees in aggregate for violating different legal metrology norms.
Strict instructions were issued to all kinds of business establishments and sellers of essential commodities located in all concerned areas to ensure strict adherence to approved rates and desist from overcharging.
The DC has instructed the concerned departments to ensure thorough market-checking and strict adherence to fair-pricing of essential commodities sold in markets in areas where major congregations are held during the Me’raj ul Alam celebrations. He has instructed for continuous market inspections throughout the period of celebrations in efforts to prevent over-charging and profiteering in markets.
Dr Shahid has warned all business establishments and sellers against overpricing of commodities and appealed the general public to report instances thereof at the DC Office helpline.
