SRINAGAR Unknown gunmen on Thursday shot at and injured National Conference Block President Bijbehara in south Kashmirs Anantnag district.
Reports said that gunmen opened fire on Muhammad Ismail (60) in Thajiwara village, leaving him injured. He was shifted to sub-district hospital Bijbehara where from he was referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment.
National Conference vice president has prayed for his speedy recovery. Taking to twitter, he said: My @JKNC_ colleague Mohd Ismail Wani, block President Bijbehara block in South Kashmir of has been shot & injured. He has been referred to Srinagar. Praying for his recovery.
A police spokesman said one individual was shot at by the militants at about 1745 hours nearby Thajiwara in Bijbehara.
Ismail has received gunshot injuries in the attack and has been evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, the spokesman said, adding, Police has registered a case in this regard. Officers from the local police unit are at the spot and are investigating the circumstances which led to this incident.
Meanwhile, National conference vice president Omar Abdullah prayed for his recovery.
