Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, who heads the Mutahida Ulema Council (MUC), said that the MUC has withdrawn weekend shutdown call.
In view of the request made by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to revoke the shutdown called on Saturday, we have decided to withdraw the shutdown call. There will be no shutdown on Saturday, said Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam. Earlier today, Mirwaiz had requested the MUC to withdraw the shutdown .
On Tuesday, the MUC had appealed people to observe a complete shutdown on 16th March (Saturday) in view of summoning of Mirwaiz to New Delhi by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
On March 9, the NIA sent a notice to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq asking him to appear in person before the agencys court in New Delhi on March 11 in connection with a case filed into alleged funding of militancy in Kashmir.
The Mirwaiz, however, refused to fly to New Delhi citing hostile security atmosphere.
