NEW DELHI The Press Council of India (PCI) has issued notice to the Jammu and Kashmir seeking response on decision to block advertisements to two Srinagar based newspapers.
The notice was flashed after PCI took cognizance on the complaint filed by Kashmir Editors Guild and protest by the major newspapers of Kashmir by way of running front blank pages on 11.3.2019 for non issuance of government advertisements to two leading newspapers of the Valley namely Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Reader without giving any reasons.
A Notice for Statement in Reply has been issued to the Government of Jammu & Kashmir and the State Information Department, PCI said in a brief statement adding the “Council views with concern such incident, which tends to undermines the freedom of press”.
