SRINAGAR Decision regarding the movement of vehicles on Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with rest of the world, shall be taken on Wednesday, authorities said on Tuesday evening.
Today traffic movement was disrupted on highway due to landslide at Salad near Kharpora between Ramban- Banihal, reads a statement by traffic department.
It said decision regarding the movement of vehicles on highway shall be taken tomorrow after all the Srinagar-bound vehicles are cleared subject to fair weather and clearance of road. No movement of any type of vehicle shall be allowed on highway till further decision. Earlier, the highway opened for one-way traffic for stranded vehicles. Supplies of essential commodities are routed into the landlocked Kashmir Valley through this 300 km-long highway.
Acute scarcity of the commodities including vegetables, mutton, poultry and petroleum products hit the valley last month due to frequent and long blockades of the highway.
Last week it remained closed due to fresh snowfall and landslides.
