SRINAGAR Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) Monday termed as misleading the statement of Governor administration that schools, mosques and orphanages have been kept out of the scope of the seizures and sealing.
Responding to the statement, spokesman of KCC&I as per a statement stated that statement was surprising on the following points:-
That the ban had been imposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs vide S.O 1069(E) dated the 28th of February, 2019 and the State having only facilitated it; any clarification required to be issued would ordinarily emanate from the Central Government;
That the action of imposition of the ban has already been condemned by a majority of stakeholders in our State as being attempts to subjugate the minorities with an eye on the forthcoming elections
That having arrested teachers, students, key organizational leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami, sealed their properties including residential houses and frozen their bank accounts, how the Government expects the schools and orphanages controlled by the Jamaat-e-Islami to function is not understandable.
Meanwhile, the Aligarh Muslim University(AMU) students Union sought an urgent review of the ban on Jammat and demands strengthening of democracy in the state by giving space to the voices of dissent.
Government must avoid measures like banishing that only feed anti-India sentiment in Kashmir. Governor of the state, Mr. Satya Pal Malik must inform the Centre about the Kashmirs response to the ban and make efforts to help in making peace in the state, it said in a statement.
The students body said there was no proof of Jamaat being involved in terror or underground activities.
The nation must be told that Jamaat-e-Islami, J&K runs as per its constitution wherein Article 5, clause 3, clearly mentions that the organisation strives through democratic and constitutional methods. Jamaat is neither an underground organisation, not is it a terror outfit. It has been part of the electoral process in the state in 1971, 1975, 1977, 1983 and 1987. It is only after mass rigging of elections in 1989 that Jamaat abandoned the electoral process, according to a statement.
As BJP rule is coming to an end, and Parliamentary elections at just few weeks away, the ban on Jamaat appears to be a decision that has little to do with unlawful activities, and more to do with the hard core Hindutva politics. Almost all political parties, be it including National Conference, PDP and Congress have snubbed the ban. The religious leadership in Kashmir, civil society and traders have also condemned the ban as politically motivated.
We, at Aligarh Muslim University take strong notice of the repulsive response against the ban in Jammu and Kashmir, and want the Government of the day to come clean on charges against Jamaat.
