SRINAGAR A policeman allegedly involved in decamping of four rifles from the house of a Congress leader Muzaffar Parray in December last year, was arrested from Bone and Joint hospital Barzullah here in Srinagar on Friday.
A local news agency quoted official sources as saying that the policeman Showkat Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Hamid Khan of Arath Budgam was arrested while he was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
They said that the cop was arrested by a special investigation team of police constituted to investigate the case.
A police officer while confirming the arrest said that Showkat’s role in the incident came to fore during the investigation of the case.
“While Showkat was posted with IRP 16 battalion in Jammu, he went missing in December last year and his involvement in the incident came to fore during the investigations,” the officer said.
The officer said that the arrest will further help the SIT in revealing the plot leading to the decamping of the rifles.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that Showkat is associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit and his code name is Aumer Bhai.
It is pertinent to mention here that said a person is involved in FIR No.73/2018 U/S 392 RPC, 7/25 Arms Act, 3 PEPO Act registered at P/S Rajbagh Srinagar, he said.
Further questioning of the arrested accused is going on so as to advance the investigation in the case, he said.
Pertinent to mention that on December 31 last year, it came to fore that four rifles are missing from the guard room of the official residence (J-37 quarter) of Congress MLC Muhammad Muzaffar Paray.
