SRINAGAR A complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir Valley on Sunday against the mass arrests and attempts to fiddle with Article 35-A., while as authorities imposed restrictions in parts of the city.
The shutdown was called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising of two factions of Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) led by Muhammad Yasin Malik.
All the shops, business establishments and petrol pumps were closed while as traffic was also off the roads throughout the day.
Restrictions under Section 144 CrPc have been imposed in five police station areas of Srinagar, a police official said.
He said curbs were imposed in police station areas of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, MR Gunj and Safakadal.
The official said restrictions were imposed as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in view of the strike call.
