Srinagar: Former chairman of Hurriyat Conference and senior separatist leader Maulana Muhammad Abbas Ansari Monday asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to withdraw security personnel posted at his residence forthwith.
A day after the government withdrew the security cover of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference, Maulana Abbas Ansari wrote to the Jammu and Kashmir Police asking them to withdraw his protection.
The letter written by Ansari’s personal secretary urged the Senior Superintendent of Police, (security) to withdraw the protection provided by the government forthwith.
“We will not provide any kind of accommodation to the security personal henceforth”, letter by Abbas read.
A spokesman of the Ansari-led Ittehadul Muslimeen said it was the government’s decision at that time to provide security and today, it is their decision to remove it.
“It’s not an issue for us. With or without these police personnel at Molvi sahab’s residences, all remains the same. He had never asked for it,” the spokesman said.
He claimed that Maulana Abbas had never asked for security and it was the state government which had insisted on it.
It was during the leadership of Maulana Abbas Ansari that first ever talks between Hurriyat Conference and Atal Behari Vajpayee led NDA government were held in 2004.
