Jammu Anger is brewing across Kargil district against the recent decision of the government to establish the headquarters for the newly established Ladakh division of the state at Leh.
Addressing a joint press conference at Jammu, Legislative Council Chairman Haji Inayat Ali and Congress leader and former MLA Kargil Asgar Ali Karbalaie said that declaring Ladakh a separate division had been their long pending demand as the region was being ignored on various fronts, including education, economy and health.
“We welcome the decision that Ladakh has been declared the third division of the state of Jammu and Kashmir but government has completely neglected Kargil and has established the division headquarters at Leh only,” they said.

They further said that stationing offices of the Divisional Commissioner and IG Police etc at Leh permanently has not been in their demand and they had time and again urged the government that the headquarter be based on rotational basis at Leh and Kargil.
“This decision not only has hurt people of Kargil but they also feel cheated as government while accepting the long pending demand has again ignored the services to the nation rendered by the people of Kargil,” they said.
They demanded that the government relook at its decision otherwise people of Kargil will launch an agitation over this ‘step-motherly’ treatment. “We are not against Leh, its an equal part of Ladakh but we are here to demand what should have been given to Kargil as an equal partner as well,” they said.
Meanwhile BJP unit Kargil has also extended support to the decision of establishing division headquarters at Kargil on rotational basis. We would also like to add that the entire BJP Unit Kargil (including the executive members, district prabhari, block level and grassroots level karyakartaas) will not shy away from submitting mass resignation from the party if justice is not meted out to the district, BJP said in a statement.
