SRINAGAR Protests broke out in Habakadal locality of Srinagar city after a boy was hit in head by a stone allegedly hurled at him by a CRPF jawan from a nearby bunker. The boy has sustained critical head injury.
Eyewitnesses said that a 15 year old boy, identified as Muhammad Younis son of Bashir Ahmed Faffu, a resident of Habakadal was crossing the old bridge in the area when a CRPF guard without any provocation hurled a stone on him from his Bunkar cum CRFP camp.
The boy sustained injuries and was immediately shifted to SMHS Hospital where he received stitches. His condition was stated to be stable.
The incident sparked shutdown and protest in the area while the locals demanded removal of the bunker saying that it is a nuisance for them.
CRPF personnel try to provoke people on daily basis. Todays incident is a glaring example how these people in uniform want to create disturbance in the area, the locals said and raised high pitched pro-freedom slogans.
Shortly after the incident, a team led by senior police officer rushed to spot and pacified the protesters. They assured protesters that they will take up the matter with the higher authorities.
