NC Protests Civilian Killings, ‘Discrimination’ With Old City

SRINAGAR — The National Conference (NC) Tuesday protested against the government for ignoring the Old City areas in development as well as the “continuous civilian killings” in Kashmir 

Senior NC leader and former MLA Eidgah, Mubarak Gul, led  the protest against the government for “ignoring Sher-e-Khaas on all fronts.”

Gul along with scores of his activists and locals assembled in Srinagar’s Press Enclave this afternoon and chanted slogans in favour of their demands.   He said that the government has ignored Shehr-e-Khaas on all fronts, saying that the authorities have even failed to allot a college in Shere-e-khaas.

“The free land of over 60 kanal have been provided to the State government for the establishment of the college but unfortunately the administration has failed to set up a college on the land,” he said.

He said not only in the education sector, the government has also failed to “provide proper drainage facility in Shehr-e-Khaas areas.”

“Besides improper drainage facility, all the sewage is being dumped into Achan following which no steps are being taken for its degradation, thus leaving the people living nearer to it to suffer,” he said.

Gul said people of Shehr-e-Khaas are not meant for pellets and bullets but they “deserve the development and every other facility but unfortunately nothing is being provided to them.”

“The use of pellet guns in Kashmir and killings must be stopped forthwith and a peaceful process should be adopted to resolve the issue so that the people could heave a sigh of relief,” he said.

The NC also condemned the “mass killings and continuous use of pellet guns.” The protesting activists of the party carried placards seeking end to the use of pellet guns in Kashmir Valley.   The protesters shouted slogans and sought end to the bloodshed in Valley.

Mubarak Gul in response to a question said that though pellet guns were brought in Kashmir during NC regime but were never used on protesters. “It has now become a norm in Kashmir to use pellets on protesters and blind them. Killings must stop in Kashmir,” he said.

Gul said that autonomy will always remain the agenda of National Conference. “We will always strive for the restoration of Autonomy in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
