SRINAGAR The Joint Resistance Leadership held candlelight vigil protests on the fourth consecutive day on Thursday.
A large number of activists of the JRL staged protests in different parts of Kashmir against what they termed was a continuous human rights violations being witnessed in Kashmir.
In a statement, the leadership comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik said that in view of the Human Rights Week, a number of candle light vigil protests were held in different places of Srinagar.
People from several places including Srinagars downtown Nawa Kadal, Chatabal Veer, Bemina crossing and other places people assembled and staged candle light protest against the ongoing human rights abuses in Kashmir, they said.
Meanwhile Hurriyat Conference faction lead by Syed Ali Shah Geelani said that we again reiterate our appeal to international community and all human rights organizations to take a serious note of brazen aggression on unarmed and Kashmiris and to make progressive efforts, rather than occasional condemnation, for the resolution of this long standing dispute as promised by the UN through its UNSC resolutions.
The Indian forces and police have unleashed yet another arrest spree to sabotage these peaceful protests, and so far hundreds of pro-freedom workers and youth have been arrested, said the party statement.
Authorities also detained senior Hurriyat (M) leader Hilal Ahmad War from his residence in Srinagar on Thursday.
A police party, a spokesman said, raided Wars residence at Maisuma area of the city and detained him.
His arrest comes in connection with the Joint Resistance Leaderships programme to observe human rights week from December 3 to December 9 to highlight rights violations in Kashmir.
JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has urged the people to hold candlelight and torch processions in protest to the unabated civilian killings.
