SRINAGAR Hundreds of movie buffs thronged the Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF) on the second day on Thursday here.
The seven-day film festival started yesterday at Tagore Hall, Srinagar. Bollywood feature film Shri 420 was screened on the second day of the festival here.
The other films that were screened during the day include Afzal Sofis All Out, Indu Shekhars Smoke Free, Nupur Sandhus Beautiful Me, Suraj Vilas Dalvis Tiparu, Sharofat Arabovas The Illusion Sellar, Vishal Shindes Quarter, Bilal A Jans The Poet of Silence, Pankaj Saxenas Cinessence in Kashmir and Mushtaq A Balas Purana Ghar.
Vani Tripathi Tikoo, member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) interacted with the students and the film buffs on the sidelines of the festival.
During her interactions, she talked about the film censorship, women right in the films and how the films are being censored at the censor board.
It is a very unique kind of festival taking place in the valley. We get to see the world-class films here and we also get to know different genres of filmmaking from the film experts coming from different parts of India, said Sadia Hilal, a film buff.
We have improved a lot in terms of quality and quantity as far as the last edition is concerned. We intend to make this festival a regular feature in Kashmir, said festival Director Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan.
The main purpose of holding this festival is to screen the world-class films in Kashmir for the general masses especially the youth. Secondly, we provide an international platform to the filmmakers of the Valley to showcase their filmmaking talent, added Mushtaaque.
A bevvy of Bollywood celebrities attended the festival. Those who have been locked for the festival include Madhur Bhandarkar, Soni Razdan, Rajit Kapur, Komal Nahta, Rahul Mitra, Vani Tripathi, Raj Bhansal, Saahil Saple, Ashok Kaul and others.
“Apart from the screenings, several workshops will also be held for aspiring directors, actors, scriptwriters and cinematographers, Khan said.
It is a great initiative taken by the organizers. I am sure it will go a long way. If it gets support from all the concerned departments or some corporate houses then it can run smoothly, feels Mir Sarwar, Bollywood actor of Kashmiri origin.
