SRINAGAR The Enforcement wing of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority launched the demolition drive in different areas of Srinagar here on Wendesday.
Officials said that they razed down ten illegal structures were demolishes in the of areas Friends Colony, Teilbal, Dangerpora and Dhobi Mohalla Shalimar.
Among the structures which were demolished include 4 two storey structures and one single storey structure was raised illegally.
Also in the area of Panditpora, Rangparistan, Nowpora, Duwlatabad one three storey building, 2 shops, one room structures and tin fence was demolished.
During the drive one demolition squad member, Khursheed Ahmad Lone, got injured.
The LAWDA officials said that they intend to carry out series of demolition drives in the coming days. Enforcement Officers of LAWDA have asked people to demolish illegal structures on their own to save the Dal Lake for posterity.
According to enforcement officers of LAWDA the demolition drive will continue to remove the illegal structures in non – permissible areas in the catchment area of Dal Lake.
They said legal action was also initiated against the owners of houses and other structures which have come up in violation of the Master Plan will be initiated.
People are advised to desist from carrying out illegal constructions in the area falling in the jurisdiction of LAWDA and demolish their illegal structures on their own to save this prestigious water body for posterity. Further, all the public residing within the LDA jurisdiction are hereby directed not to go for any sort of illegal constructions and encroachments. The enforcement wing will continue with demolition of illegal construction. The Tipper owners are directed not carry construction material in the prohibited area of Dal and Nigeen Lake without permission, said an official.
Due to the growth of illegal structures, the size of the Dal Lake has shrunk as the people living around it are releasing untreated waste into it.
