SRINAGAR The fourth edition of Kashmir World Film Festival which started on Wednesday in Srinagar saw a bevy of Bollywood actors and directors attending the inaugural function.
On its inaugural day, Madhur Bhandarkars feature fiction film Indu Sarkar was screened in a non competitive section. The actress Tabu and director Madhur Bhandarkar were also felicitated by former Chief Minister and NC president, Farooq Abdullah, who inaugurated the Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF) at Tagore Hall in the presence of eminent artists and film personalities.
Dr Abdullah said that he will take every step to help the people of the valley in preserving art and culture.
People who love art and culture, I am ready to help them,he said. Deputy Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Sheikh Imran and Dr Sameer Kaul, who is top ranking oncologist were the guest of honour.
Film Analyst Taran Adarsh shared their photo and felicitation news on his twitter account. Tabu and Madhur Bhandarkar felicitated at Kashmir World Film Festival in Srinagar by well known politician Farooq Abdullah, he said in a tweet.
Actress Tabu, while speaking to the audience said that she always loves to visit the valley. Kashmir is like home to me and I feel privilege to be here. No doubt people are inviting me to valley, but I personally love to be in the valley, she said.
The week long film festival will conclude on December 4 with another feature fiction film, Laila Majnu, which is directed by Sajid Ali. Films from six different countries, including Iran and Bangladesh, will be screened during the festival.
While addressing a press conference on Tuesday, festival director Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan said, We received more than 100 entries for screening. We have selected 11 Kashmiri films, 28 films from the rest of the states and five films from foreign countries,
The films that will be screened at the festival include Beyond the Clouds, Parmanu, Shri 420, Naya Daur, Jagtay Raho, Made in GouGou, Haldaa, The Fear of Silence and The Illusion Seller.
The Advisory Board formed for the festival include the film personalities Saeed Mirza, Govind Nihalani, Rajit Kapur, Anjum Rajabali, Anubhav Sinha, Vani Tripathi, Vinod Kapoor, Rahul Mittra, Raju Chadha, Raj Bansal, Ashok Kaul, Arunaraje Patil, Premendra Majumdar, Sayyed Humayun Qaisar and Narendra Mohan.
The previous editions received a total of 215 films that included films from 11 countries including USA, Italy, Spain, Jordan, Lebanon, Iran, Afghanistan, Poland, Turkey, Korea and Nepal.
