SRINAGAR The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today directed State Authorities to strictly ensure that there was no entry of plastic in the state owing to the sensitive ecology and well-being of the environment.
The court directed the authorities to effectively stop entry of plastic into the state and file report on the issue within six weeks.
Hearing the PIL on maintenance of parks and Gardens, a division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Sanjeev Kumar observed that plastic should be stopped in view of the ecological sensitivity of the state.
The division bench directed that authorities to ensure that parks and gardens are maintained.
The public spaces, the court observed, should be maintained at any cost so that recreational activities for children can take place. The court also observed that parks and gardens prove beneficial in many aspects for the wellbeing of nature as well as to the people.
Additional Advocate General (AAG) also informed the court that 80 percent parks and gardens are well maintained.
Amicus Curiae, Syed Faisal Qadri informed the court that the eleven gardens identified by the state only nine were found by him. He further submitted that he has carried inspection of six gardens while the inspection of other gardens couldn’t be taken by him because of the difficulty to locate them.
The court directed Director Floriculture to assign an officer who can assist the counsel to take inspection of the other gardens.
“After inspection, the counsel shall submit a report before the court,” the court directed.
