In the days of yore, people would travel miles by feet. They would even carry a heap of load along.
Human mind developed and they began pulling carts for carrying goods from one place to other. Then came horse driven carts and so on.
After some time man no longer felt comfortable the way horses were drawn to the wooden carriages. This led to the invention of engines and subsequently cars, buses and trains etcetera. The automobile was such a great invention that man stopped carrying a load on his shoulders.
We have been using vehicles since ages now: be it for personal or commercial purposes. So much so that it has now become a menace for humanity. The toxic exhaust fumes and noise pollution with clogged roads from ever-increasing traffic is a crisis we are grappling with now.
Not only that human greed for more cars and thrill for speed is now killing more humans than in the battlefields of the yore.
This Monday morning I narrowly escaped death along with many co passengers! I was travelling from Srinagar to Baramulla in a Sumo with a reckless driver on the wheels. My heart still pounds with the dread I faced when the vehicle nearly turned turtle on a blind curve as the driver was chasing other Sumos at a high speed only to fetch more passengers ahead of them.
Boys riding two-wheelers, though not in a race to earn more bucks like Sumo drivers, are no exception when to comes to reckless driving on the roads. Youth performing stunts & manoeuvring through the crowds to impress passersby is common sight these days.
They don’t care when people yell at them: Look at the lunatics set off to commit suicide. Lets close your eyes for a moment & introspect: what if the bike skids off? What if the stunt kills you or someone in the process? Parents could grieve for life over your death. Consider this life as the most important thing. We are the most important entity; the rest is only a part.
Postscript: Carts were a sign of human development vehicles were astounding. Instead of giving a pat on a back of its inventor, he is being abused. Behind every accident is a reckless driver. The sooner they prioritize their life, the better.
