SRINAGAR Jammu and Kashmir Joint Coordination Committee Private Schools (JKJCCPS) Tuesday asked the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan to issue orders to bar the revenue and police officials from raiding the schools to check whether they were indulging in profiteering on sale of uniforms and books.
We requested the Divisional Commissioner that only officials from Education department should be allowed to visit schools. Schools are sacred places and if revenue or police officials enter the school premises, it creates a bad image and also affects the psychology of the students. The Div Com assured that he would order both revenue and police not to accompany officials from education department to schools for any kind of inspection, said the JKJCCPS in a statement here.
A JKJCCPS delegation led by its President Showkat M Chowdhary and Chief Patron Prof C L Vishen informed the Divisional Commissioner that schools are selling books at its premises at the time of new admission through booksellers and vendors to facilitate students and parents on their requests.
Chowdhary said that schools inform the parents about the list of the books through their websites at the time of results. 95 per cent of the parents demand sale of the books and uniforms at school campus through vendors for their comfort which are sold as per printed MRPs and schools dont make any commission from it. The schools have never asked the students to buy books or uniforms from any particular place but it is their personal choice to either purchase them at school or in open market, said the JKJCCPS.
Only 5 percent of the parents are raising hue and cry while most of the parents want to save time and energy by visiting schools for books or uniforms.
The authorities can take action against the vendors if any books or uniforms are sold at higher prices at school premises. There is a proper bill given to the parents and if there is any discrepancy in MRP, the parents can complain to the concerned authorities and bookseller can be held accountable, it added.
The JKJCCPS has also informed the Divisional Commissioner that as per Delhi High Court schools can sell books on MRP at school premises.
The Divisional Commissioner agreed to the genuine requests of the delegation and assured to address the grievances.
