SRINAGAR Sudden fires in a village in Kupwara district of north Kashmir have left people as well as administration perplexed from last several days.
According to reports, fires started all of sudden in Sheikh Mohalla in Khandi area of Tandghar in the frontier district.
Apart from fires in at least four heaps of grass kept by the villagers in open, there have been sudden fires in rooftops of some houses.
The houses which have suffer partial damage include that of Abdul Gafoor, Abdul Hameed Sheikh, Farooq Ahmad Sheikh , Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh, and Khursheed sheikh, the locals said.
Faced with the situation, the administration has kept fire tenders in the village to douse of the flames as at when they emerge.
We are puzzled. Despite putting best efforts, we are not able to figure out how these fires happen, SDM Mohd Aliyas told GNS.
Locals said that they invited several clerics for a special ceremonial ritual in village.
we have been told that there are numerous ghosts in the village who are behind these fires, a local said. We have conducted elaborate religious ritual to exorcise the spirits believe, the local added.
