SRINAGAR The joint resistance leadership (JRL) comprising Hurriyat Conference factions led by Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq besides JKL headed by Muhammad Yasin Malik on Thursday termed NIA charge sheet against Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Syeda Asiya Andrabi and her associates Nahida Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sofi as bundle of lies.
The leadership also condemned the slapping of 37th PSA on incarcerated chairman of Muslim League Masarat Alam Bhat and arrest of hundreds of young and old across Kashmir valley.
In a statement issued here, JRL while terming the charge-sheet against DeM leaders said that dozens of Kashmiris have been arrested by NIA on fictitious charges and put behind the bars for pursuing a political position which is contrary to that of Government of India.
Yesterday ailing women leaders Syeda Asiya Andrabi, Nahida Nasreen and Fahmeeda Sofi who are in NIA custody for the last several months have been charge-sheeted by NIA which is not only concocted but a bundle of lies, JRL said adding that the sole purpose of this is to prolong the incarceration of these women resistance leaders.
Similarly other arrested people who are languishing in Tihar jail under same kind of concocted charges are made to suffer for their political beliefs and endeavours, the leaders said adding that thousands of Kashmiris have been put in jails, interrogation centres and police stations with many of these repeatedly being slapped with PSAs to prolong their incarceration and inflict more and more sufferings to them.
Terming the 37th PSA on Masarat Aalam as another example of injustice and state terrorism, JRL said that a political leader is being subjected to chauvinism by illegal means. This is being done by police authorities in the name of so-called peace and democracy which cannot be but termed as state sponsored violence, it said.
Thousands of young and old including women are languishing in jails where they are being subjected to torture and torment. This apathy towards Kashmiri inmates is against all international laws and covenants to which India is also a signatory, JRL alleged.
The leadership also condemned the arrest of two brothers of incarcerated lady from Khunmoh who is in police custody from last many months.
Arresting and penalizing a whole family is another act of police hegemony, displaying the fact that Jammu Kashmir is a police state run and governed by police and forces, JRL said. (GNS)
