Kamraan had completed his studies some seven years ago and was desperately looking for a handsome government job.He was fed up with his poverty which had been disturbing his life, and hindering him from chasing his dreams. He had been watching his father doing menial jobs to meet out the different expenses of the family. His father’s haplessness was hitting Kamraan since his childhood days as he was a very sensitive child. The dream to end his father’s plight was the biggest driving force for him to study well.He grew up with the same dreams. The dream had turned into a pledge, now.
Kamraan tried hard but could not extend any help to his father who was still working with the contractor as a labourer. Kamraan was cursing his fate for not ending his father’s plight, as he had been trying his luck all these years to fetch a good job for himself. Despite passing many exams and interviews, he could never make it to the final lot.His confidence had begun to shake but his unprecedented and brave resolve to win was enough to motivate him to move ahead in life.
Kamraan had recently appeared in a recruitment board’s written test and had almost done well in it. This time he was confident and optimistic enough to go through. He had been working harder than before, burning his midnight oil to convert his dreams into reality. His younger sister and his parents had full faith in him.But continuous faliures had shattered him within inside and shaken his self-belief. ” Will my fate favor me this time ” Kamraan said to himself. “My father has grown weak and the contractor hardly prefers his services.Guddy is mature enough to get married, our family is caught in the worst economic crisis” He was grumbling. ” Kamraan ! meals are ready ” mother called him out loudly.
Father’s weak bones, Guddy’s marriageable age, mother’s illness and the family’s debt was enough to melt him inside. ” It is do or die for me, now “.Days kept passing and Kamraan’s wait had reached its zenith. He was counting the days. His nights had begun to be sleepless. He was constantly browsing the recruitment board’s website to check if the list is out. This time he was pretty sure. “My name must be figuring among first ten selectees because my interviews as well as my written test have gone well “. Kamraan often thought optimistically.
Finally, one evening, one of his friends called him, “Kamraan, the selection list is available on internet, your result has been kept in abeyance. You have to attend the recruitment board’s Office within a week “. Soil slipped off his feet but the news cemented his belief and he was anticipating a place for himself in the list. He had been asked to attend the recruitment board’s Office within a week.
Next morning, the village postman brought a letter to Kamraan’s house. It was from the same recruitment board, and probably dispatched some two months earlier.Kamraan was apprehensive but confident as well. He was yearning for a better and prosperous future. The dreams of a government job were evident in his eyes. After receiving the letter, he hurriedly put on his only Jean pent and asked his mother if she had some two hundred rupees for bus charges. His mother gave him 20 ten-rupee notes which she had kept in the earthen turmeric pot.
” Mother, (Moujee) Shall I leave for Srinagar ? Pray for my success ! This time I will make it to the final list “. Kamraan asked for permission . Mother bade adiue to him with good wishes.
He attended the recruitment board Office where he was asked to produce the bonafide certificate from the University. It took Kamraan some 25 days to produce the same. Now, the board authorities asked him to wait for a few days. Kamraan was in a state of uncertainty. Selectees were about to join as the documental verification had almost culminated. Kamraan was counting days and visiting the recruitment board’s Office periodically.
After some three months or so, a PDF file captioned supplementary list” got displayed on the screen of his smartphone. His heart began to palpitate, a strange redness spread on his face but there was hope in his eyes. So, with trembling hands, he opened the file and was scrolling up the pages of this link.
” U/Sd Chairman SSRB” at the end of the file, shocked him.He couldn’t believe his eyes, sat down on his knees, ran his fingers through his hair and took a deep breath. Mother knocked the door of his room open, and heard his son speaking to someone over phone, ” I will go for enterpreneurship to be my own boss. I will apply for a loan, and will try to generate employment avenues for many others “.
