SRINAGAR The Srinagar-Jammu highway remained open for one-way traffic on Wednesday and tomorrow traffic will be allowed from Srinagar to Jammu to the thoroughfare, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with rest of the world.
Keeping in view the overall condition of the road, especially between Jawahar Tunnel and Ramban coupled with narrow width of the highway at some places, allowing two way movement of vehicles on the highway is not feasible, traffic department official said.
Therefore, subject to fair weather and good condition of the road, on Thursday, movement of LMVs on the Jammu- Srinagar highway shall be allowed from Pantha Chowk/Peaks Chowk, bypass (Srinagar) towards Jammu after 0500 hours to 1500 hours and shall be cross Levdora, Qazigund up to 1700 hours, the official added.
The official said no movement of any type of vehicle shall be allowed from opposite side in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the highway.
In case of adverse weather/road condition, the decision regarding movement of traffic or otherwise on highway shall be taken by the concerned SSP Traffic on the spot as per the situation, the official added.
Moreover, the official said, the commuters are advised to exhibit highest order of driving discipline on the highway in general and while crossing Chenani-Nashri Tunnel in particular.
They shall avoid overtaking, over speeding, doubling, especially inside the tunnel and adhere to the road signs and instructions/ Do’s and Don’ts displayed on either sides of the Tunnel for their safe crossing and hassle free movement of traffic inside the tunnel tubes.
Meanwhile Mughal road and Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road remained closed for movement of traffic due to snowfall.
Decision regarding allowing the movement of traffic on these Roads shall be taken after the roads are cleared off by concerned road maintenance agencies and after assessing weather/road condition itself, the official added.
