NEW DELHI Accusing government of planning local bodies elections without sensitive political forethought Delhi based Concerned Citizens Group has expressed concern at the escalation of violence in Kashmir.
The local body election could have been planned with sensitive political forethought and as part of a consultative process for more widespread participation, group said in a joint statement sent to Kashmir Observer.
The statement, signed by Yashwant Sinha, former BJP leader and foreign minister, Wajahat Habibullah, former Chief Information Commissioner, GOI, Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Kapil Kak, Bharat Bhushan, senior journalist and Sushobha Barve of the ‘Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation’ reads: The issue of J&K is so sensitive that it is a sin to use it for petty political gains.
The group also said that it was deeply pained at the recent escalation of violence in Kashmir and at the loss of innocent civilians’ lives.
The situation is deteriorating by the day in that state and the GOI remains unconcerned. This policy will only lead to disaster, the group has warned.
