SRINAGAR An 18-year old youth drowned while fishing in a pond constructed by Irrigation department at Chandigam area of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.
Reports said that the youth Shaheen Ahmad Mir (18) son of Abdul Rashid Mir of Chandigam, Lolab along with his friends had gone for fishing.
Shaheen slipped and drowned in the Irrigation storage tank known as Mir Ser (pond) in the locality, they said.
The friends and others tried to evacuate him but he died on spot, they said.
His father Abdul Rashid said that as soon as getting the news he rushed to the spot and by the time he reached there and found Shaheen dead with body recovered by the locals.
A police officer concerned also confirmed the death of the youth and said that a case under section 174 Cr.PC has been registered and further investigations to ascertain the incident taken up. (GNS)
