SRINAGAR Seven BJP candidates and an independent sailed through unopposed for 8 municipal wards in Sopore, the bastion of Jama’at-i-Islami.
Officials said that there was no election in Sopore for 8 wards in the penultimate phase of the 4-phased ULB polls as seven Bharatiya Janata Party candidates won unopposed in Sopore along with an independent candidate.
Barring Uri, there was no election in North Kashmir as 10 candidates were declared winners unopposed in Hajin town of Bandipora district.
Regarding Uri, 73.3 voters turned up and sealed the fate of 31 candidates contesting from 13 wards.
Among the 31 candidates, 13 belonged to Congress, 14 are independents while 5 candidates contest on BJP ticket.
Uri town witnessed 75.3% turnout, highest so far in any MC. A total of 2676 voters (1328 Males and 1348) out of 3552 voters cast their votes.
