SRINAGAR The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a shutdown on Friday against the killing of a civilian in Norrbagh Qamarwari area of Srinagar during a cordon-and-search-operation on Thursday.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement while strongly condemning the fresh wave of selective genocide of Kashmiri youth that once again resulted in the killing of an innocent Muhammad Saleem Malik at Noorbagh area of Srinagar in the wee hours today in target killing.
“The JRL also condemned the fresh arrest spree of resistance leadership in the name of creating the environment for civic polls and the frequent CASOs across the length and breadth of Kashmir, especially south Kashmir and called for a complete shutdown and protests on September 28 (Friday),” the JRL said in a statement issued here.
The Leadership said that one hand the drama of holding civic polls is being enacted which always have been conducted under a massive military operation and on the other hand, massive crackdown is being launched on the resistance leadership by slapping them with PSA and lodging them in Jammu prisons and also selectively killing the youth, he said.
The leadership paid rich tributes to Muhammad Saleem Malik and the killing of two armed youth in Panzath encounter in Budgam and another armed youth in Dooru, Anantnag stating that creating a fear psychosis in the minds of people and then holding polls under the barrel of gun is not going to yield anything for Government of India as people of Kashmir who are committed to the goal of freedom have already rejected the election bogey and wont be fooled by this farcical exercise..
“The stubborn approach of New Delhi towards the historic perspective of Kashmri dispute and ignoring the ground realities have resulted in further deterioration of situation in Kashmir.
The JRL said keeping the main issue lingering was neither in the interest of India nor Pakistan as the two countries have fought three major wars in the past on Kashmir issue and the main reason of bitterness between the two nuclear powers was only Kashmir dispute.
The leadership said it is high time that instead of resorting to iron fist policy and military might to crush the genuine struggle of Kashmiris, the GoI must shun its rigid approach and take positive steps towards resolving the decades old Kashmir dispute for the everlasting peace in the south Asia, he said.
Black sheep want to shatter peace of City: Bukhari
PDP senior leader and former finance minister Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Thursday strongly condemned the civilian killing in Noorbagh area of Srinagar, terming it as a cold blooded murder.
In a statement issued here, Bukhari said the killing of Mohammad Saleem Malik during a cordon-and-search-operation launched by the government forces in Qamarwari area is a heinous crime which is unacceptable to any civilized society. He demanded an impartial probe at the highest level so that the culprits of this brutal killing are booked and brought to justice.
The former minister observed that unfortunately some vested interests in security forces have become trigger happy and feel emboldened after every such incident in Kashmir. Like in any other part of the State, such forces with nefarious designs, want to shatter the semblance of peace and tranquillity in Srinagar city, Bukhari remarked.
The PDP senior leader opined that the human life in Kashmir has been devalued by the callousness of black sheep in security forces who seem to have got a license to kill the innocent civilians and draw a sadistic pleasure out of it.
The latest cold-blooded murder in Qamarwari is in clear contravention to the assertion made by the Governor S.P Malik who wanted to build trust in Kashmir and had asked security forces to adhere to Standard Operating Procedure in all their operations in J&K, Bukhari observed.
He said it seems that some elements in police and security forces in J&K are enjoying atrocities committed on the people and the personality and attitude of such elements have become vicious.
Srinagar city seemed to be insulated to such happenings and flames emanating from turmoil hit South Kashmir. But incidents like Qamarwari killing are a direct result of attempts being made by some vested interests to shatter peace and subvert local economy in the city, Bukhari said while demanding a stern action against the culprits behind the Qamarwari civilian killing.
He appealed all right-thinking people to join their ranks to prevent such vested interests from carrying out their nefarious designs which cause fear and insecurity among common people and squeeze their economy for their own interests.
