SRINAGAR Three families claimed on Tuesday the bodies of three of the five militants killed in an encounter with government forces in Bandipora in north Kashmir.
Two families from Shopian and Kulgam districts on Tuesday reached Bandipora in north Kashmir and said the two militants slain on September 21 and 22 were from their families.
Another family from Kangan in Ganderbal district claimed the body of a third militant.
The families have been asked to approach the District Magistrate of Baramulla district as all the five militants were buried there.
The five were killed in an encounter in Sumlar area of Bandipora district. While two were killed on September 21, three others were killed the next day.
In a statement to a local news agency, the Hizbul Mujahideen said the five militants were its members and identified them as Hyder Ali of Kulgam, Muhammad Umar of Shopian, Muhammad Sidiq of Bandipora, Mawiya of Kangan and Usman of Kupwara.
Government forces had claimed that all the five belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit. (With Agency Inputs)
