SRINAGAR With the continuing rise in the prices of diesel and petrol the private transporters are charging bus and taxi fares on exorbitant rates in violation of the rates fixed by the transport department.
A legion of complainants alleged that with the continuing rise in petrol and diesel prices the conductors and drivers operating passenger busses and sumos for ferrying people to their destinations are charging fares on exorbitant rates much more than the rates fixed by the transport department. The complainants alleged that they had brought the cash fleecing practices of sumo and bus drivers and conductors even to the notice of Governors advisors during public hearings but the government has given almost a license to the sumo and bus drivers and conductors to fleece the gullible travelers in busses and sumos.
RTO Kashmir Ikramullah Tak when contacted said the rates fixed by the transport department for all the bus and sumo routes are available on the website of transport department and the travelers charged more than the fixed rates can lodge their complaints in the grievance column of the website and we assure that appropriate action will be taken against the drivers and conductors charging more than the fixed rates. The ARTOs of all the districts have been directed to notify the rates for all routes for information of general public. The transport department appeals people also to show patience and transporters to adhere to the rates fixed by the department. (KNS)
