SRINAGAR – The markets across Srinagar city witnessed a huge rush of shoppers from past several days.
While queues of buyers were seen outside bakery and mutton shops, the most crowded places in the city were the makeshift animal markets, especially at the Eidgah ground in the old City.
The other main attractions were bakery products. Cakes, pastries, cookies and biscuits sold like hot cakes. Some of the better known bakery shops in Srinagar had taken orders as long as a month back.
Reports said that thousands of people visited various marketplaces, particularly Lal Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, Batmaloo and Old Citys Jamia Masjid ahead of Eid-ul-Azha which is being celebrated today.
In Lal Chowk huge rush of people was witnessed outside almost all the sweet and confectionary shops.
At some places push and pull scenes were witnessed as young, old, men, women and children jostled to make the purchases first.
Footwear shops, readymade garment outlets have been colourfully decorated by the traders. The huge discount announcements by the readymade garment outlets have also been an added attraction for the Eid shoppers.
Bumper to bumper traffic was witnessed on most of the city roads throughout the day.
Reports said heavy Eid rush was also witnessed from the markets around the historic Jamia Masjid in the old city.
