SRINAGAR Three militants were claimed to have been killed by government forces by foiling an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar area of north Kashmirs Kupwara district, police said on Saturday.
A police official said that a gunfight broke out after the army challenged a group of militants at the LoC. He said the militants opened fire on the army, triggering off a gunfight.
Director General of Police, Shesh Paul Vaid, said in a tweet: Three militants killed by Army while infiltrating in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara today.
Senior Superintendent of police (SSP), Kupwara Shriram Ambarkar Dinkar said the exchange of fire has stopped. According to preliminary details, three militants have been killed. Searches are going on in the area, he said.
Dinkar said that more details will be shared when the bodies are recovered.
Soldier killed in landmine blast
A soldier was killed in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday evening, police said.
A police officer said that the army’s 57 RR was on a routine patrol duty at Gulab Post near Lasdat area adjacent to Jat Gali area along the LoC when the landmine blast took place.
In the incident, the soldier sustained multiple splinter injuries and was taken to military hospital Drugmulla where he succumbed later, he said.
An army officer based in Kupwara also confirmed the death of the soldier due to the explosion.
The officer identified the deceased as Rifleman Dalbir Singh (27).
