SRINAGAR The bullet-riddled body of a police constable, who was abducted by unknown gunmen suspected to be militants, from south Kashmirs Kulgam district last night, has been recovered from Qaimoh Gath area in the district.
The constable has been identified as Mohammad Saleem Shah.
The gunmen had abducted him from his home on Friday night, a police spokesman said.
The spokesman added that the body of the policeman was recovered from a nursery near village Redwani Payeen, which is considered as the hotbed of militants.
He said the body bore severe torture marks indicating that he was brutally tortured to death by the militants.
The policeman had joined the services in 2016 and after completing his basic training he was posted to DPL Pulwama.
He is survived by aged parents, two brothers and one unmarried sister. Sources said that the cop was the lone bread earner for his family.
Saleem, who was earlier working as a Special Police Officer (SPO) was recently promoted as constable.
He had come home on leave few days back from Kathua where he was undergoing training.
The police said that the initial investigation into the matter has indicated it as a handiwork of militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.
We condemn such gruesome act and assure that the culprits shall be brought to justice, the spokesman said.
Since a few months, the state has witnessed a huge spurt in militancy.
Earlier this month, the body of another police constable was found by locals at Pariwan village in Kulgam, a day after he was abducted from a medical shop in Shopian.
The constable, identified as Javaid Ahmad Dar, was a resident of Vehil village
Militants Attack Govt Forces In Anantnag, Kulgam
Militants on Wednesday opened fire on security forces at two places in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
In the first attack, the militants fired upon the security forces at the Bamzoo area of Mattan in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a police official said.
He said the attack was repulsed by the forces and there was no loss of life.
In the second incident, the militants attacked a patrolling party of the Army between Hawoorah and Redwani villages in Kulgam district, the official said.
He said the firing was retaliated by the forces.
There are no reports of any loss of life, the official said.
Army Intensifies Searches In Tanghdar
Army has intensified searches in Tangdar sector along the Line of Control (LoC) following a gunfight with a group of infiltrators on Saturday.
Reports said that army’s 6 Gadhwal and a group of militants had a stand-off in the dense woods of Balthedyan along the LoC adjacent to Tony Post today morning.
An army officer said that the troops today morning launched the cordon-and-search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of some militants.
As the forces intensified the searches, the group of militants believed to be infiltrators opened fire triggering off a gunfight. “Additional reinforcement was rushed to the site”.
When this report was filed massive searches were going on in the area.
SSP Kupwara Ambarkar ram Dinkar also confirmed that the exchange of fire took place in Balthadiyan area near Tony post.
“Area is under cordon amid ongoing operation,” SSP said.
