SRINAGAR Peoples Democratic Party is likely to make some changes after a group of disgruntled members revolted against party president Mehbooba Mufti and challenged her leadership qualities.
A local news agency CNS that scores of party workers suggested Mehbooba Mufti to overhaul the party to stop dissent. They said that Mehbooba Mufti has consulted some top leaders and the party was mulling to bring a massive change in coming days. They said Mehbooba will continue to lead the party as she was enjoying overwhelming support inside the party.
Insiders said that senior leader and incumbent Member Parliament Muzaffar Hussain Beigh is likely to be nominated as the patron of the party. Ailing Beigh Sahab will be assigned the responsibility once he will fully recover. He is not feeling well. Similarly, Muhammad Dilawar Mir and Abdul Rehman Veeri will also be given important responsibilities. Yawar Mir will be projected as youth leader in the party, they said.
Party insiders disclosed that a group of members have been formed to interact with the rebellious members whose number has been slightly increasing day by day.
I was ready to meet Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday but changed my mind after she talked about 1987 elections, Javaid Hussian Beigh, rebellious PDP legislator from Baramulla said.
Sources said that rebellious members have forwarded couple of names and want party to strip them from the powers they enjoy. If everything goes as per plan, party will be on track once again, said an insider. (CNS)
