ISLAMABAD A picture which went viral on social media Saturday night showing former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law retired captain Mohammad Safdar hiding in a cave in Manshera ahead of his surrender in Rawalpindi over corruption charges.
The Pakistan Accountability Court had awarded Safdar one-year imprisonment in the case.
The undated picture reportedly released by the aides of Safdar on the social media claimed that the cave was located in the mountainous Tanawal area in Mansehra, Dawn reported on Thursday.
It also showed the former premier’s son-in-law with Kalashnikov rifles and a small suitcase.
After the court announced his conviction in the Avenfield case on Friday, Safdar had announced that he was ready to surrender.
He, however, went into hiding before surrendering to the court in Rawalpindi after high drama.
Dawn quoting sources reported that Safdar left the cave on Sunday morning to reach Rawalpindi by the infrequent Chappar Road, which linked Lassan Nawab area of Mansehra with Haripur.
Mr. Safdar is also facing a NAB inquiry into Rs4 billion corruption in Mansehra development funds.
Safdar’s wife, Maryam Nawaz Sharif was also sentenced to one year in jail by the court while his father-in-law Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister faces a decade behind bars on corruption charges.
