Tourists Urinate At Dal Lake, Invite Angry Reaction From Netizens

SRINAGAR — Kashmiris on Sunday reacted sharply to a picture that has gone viral on facebook, twitter and instagram purportedly showing a few tourists urinating on the banks of Dal Lake.

The Kashmiri netizens have taken a serious note of the act with many reporting it to the civil administration by tagging a number of officers.

Fahad Shah, a Srinagar based journalist while taking a sarcastic dig at the act and the tourists, tweeted: “This is what so called tourists or Yatris from mainland India, who bring so called economy, do to ?#Kashmir, the so called heaven! (SIC)”

A businessman and a prominent netizen, Mohammed Afaaq Sayeed posted the picture on his wall and commented: “”Appavit’tritt’aa” being unloaded into Dal Pee’l of Kaashmir, before proceeding towards the “Pavitar Gupha”.

Wait … There is seemingly an “Abla Naari” also doing her bit of nationalism besides a pavement behind the bus. (SIC)”

Many netizens pointed out that the people in question were the Yatris who had come for the annual pilgrimage to Pahalgam.

Some netizens were critical of the people who were writing against the Yatris blaming equally the local populace for the mess that Dal Lake has turned into.

In response to the same picture posted by journalist Daanish Bin Nabi who had captioned: Yatris at Dal Lake, a netizen Maajid Aslam Wafai wrote: “Why there is hue and cry with some liters of urine of pilgrims in our world famous Dal lake. We have sending millions of liters of sewage into the dal. But ironically there is no hue and cry.”

A Kashmiri scholar Basharat Ali responded to the picture by writing: “Indian Tourists peeing at a “weed unloading point” on the bank of “world famous” Dal lake in Kashmir.”

In response to the viral pictures, a journalist based in New Delhi, Seema Mustafa said that so much (of) hype and basic arrangements for toilets.. A flagship of the Govt.. have not been made . Wow! And yes it’s true open defecation is a totally North Indian bimaru belt occurrence with the south also hesitant to follow suit.”

A Kashmiri Pandit activist Sanjay Parva in response to Dr Ijtaba Shafi’s post: We have been welcoming Yatris cordially but not to contaminate our natural resources.Yatris with such mindset need to be condemned by one and all.This act of yours is deplorable,shameful & pathetic.You have brought disrepute to all those respected Yatris who rever this pilgrimage in highest spirit.

“Open Defecation is not a norm here like you might be witnessing but being ambassadors of your respective states you simply are a blot on Swatch Bharat Abhiyan,” responded: “You have raised a good issue and the act is deplorable. They have made a railway track of the Dal but to me your point will appear loopsided until you have an unbiased look around Srinagar city and see for yourself how and where all does it stink. There are dumps of garbage everywhere, which also includes pee and potty (oops). Raising a voice against yatris is but natural (pun intended), but when will we learn to criticize ourselves and undo the damage that we have done to our soil.”
