SRINAGAR Chairman Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested by police on Thursday morning, the party has said.
A party spokesperson in a statement said a large contingent of police cordoned Maliks residence in the wee hours of Thursday morning, raided his room and arrested him. After the arrest, he (Malik) was immediately shifted to Kothi Bagh police station, he said.
While strongly condemning Maliks arrest, the spokesperson said that to halt peaceful protest, arresting JKLF chief and placing other leaders under house arrest has become a hobby of police and authorities.
Imposing restrictions to suppress peoples voices is no democracy but worst kind of dictatorship which Indian rulers are practicing under the grab of so-called biggest democracy, he said.
Terming the crackdowns in Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam and other parts of Valley as worst oppression, JKLF spokesperson said that beating and torturing common people without discrimination of age and gender, vandalizing and destroying their properties, arresting young boys and torturing them, humiliating elders and community leaders has become an order of the day which is highly condemnable.
He said that intimidating slogans and statements of Indian rulers cannot suppress, finish or even weaken our resolve for freedom.
Our struggle and peaceful resistance is based on truth and justice and will continue till the (desired) goal is achieved, JKLF spokesperson said.
