SRINAGAR Suspected militants on Wednesday barged inside the house of a police constable and fired upon at inmates at Katho Hallan area of Kellar in south Kashmirs Shopian district, resulting in the injuries to the cop and his sister, police said.
A police official said that the gunmen fired upon the constable Rayees Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Hassan after barging inside his home at Katho Hallan village on Wednesday evening.
In the incident, Lone along with his minor sister Urfi Jan suffered bullet wounds and were shifted to the nearby district hospital where from Lone was referred to Srinagar hospital in critical conditions, the official said. His sister has suffered injuries in leg and her condition is stated to be stable.
Sources said that Lone was recently promoted from SPO to police constable and is presently posted at DPL Shopian.
SSP Shopian Shailendra Mishra said that Lone and his sister were shot at by the militants after they barged inside their home.
Meanwhile, government forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the assailants. (GNS)
