POONCH A 22-year-old labourer drowned in a river at Mankote area of Poonch district on Wednesday.
Official sources said that the labourer Kalish Singh son of Suran Singh of Malan Dessa of Doda slipped and fell into the river while he was working at an under-construction bridge of Mendhar river near Mankote area. He got trapped inside the muddy water, they said.
Soon after the incident, a police team reached the spot and launched the operation to retrieve the labourer, sources said adding that after hectic efforts, the body was fished out from the dam, they said.
SHO Mohammad Amin Mendhar, when contacted by GNS, confirmed the incident and said, We have taken cognizance of the incident and probe into the incident has been launched.
