SRINAGAR Militants on Tuesday attacked a police station at Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district while as an army vehicle was damaged in an IED blast at Sopore.
Official sources said that a group of militants opened indiscriminate fire upon police station and SOG camp following which the army’s 13 RR camp, in the vicinity, fired in retaliation. The militants reportedly managed to escape from the spot.
A senior army officer told local news agency GNS reinforcements of army’s Para Commandos were called and rushed to the spot.
Announcements were made via public address system asking people to come out on streets following which clashes erupted near the site.
An Army vehicle was damaged in an IED explosion by militants in Sopore area of Baramulla district on Tuesday evening, an official said. No casualties were reported.
The militants triggered an IED explosion at Yemberzal Wari in Sopore area while an Army vehicle was passing through the area, he said.
Meanwhile, Police claimed to have foiled a rifle-snatching bid by the militants in Down Town of Srinagar city.
SSP Srinagar Imtiaz Ismail Parray said that militants approached police guard at Hawal guarding the Mirza Kamil Shrine with an intention to loot weapons.
However, the alert sentry fired some shots forcing the militants to flee, he said, adding the area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.
