BARAMULLA Fire broke out in a receiving station at National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday.
Reports reaching GNS said that fire broke out inside the NHPC receiving station and later engulfed adjoining huts. Soon after the fire, local volunteers living in the area, and a fire tender from Baramulla reached the spot and tried to douse off the flames.
A hut adjacent to the receiving station also got damaged, they said.
According to local reports, the fire incident might have caused huge loss to machinery and electric equipment as it was looking a major fire.
Station House Officer, Boniyar confirmed the incident to GNS and said that fire tenders were immediately pressed to douse off the fire. He said that the flames have been almost controlled with the efforts of locals, police and team of fire tenders.
He said that the cause of the fire was not known immediately.
“A case has been registered into the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire,” the officer said.
It is pertinent to mention here that last month Lower Jehlam Hydroelectric power project NHPC Boniyar was also damaged in a fire mishap.
