SRINAGAR Residents of Gandibagh Kakapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday staged a protest demonstration against government forces for allegedly trying to set ablaze several residential houses including that of Jaish-e-Mohammad militant Adil Ahmad alias Waqas Commando.
Reports said that scores of residents took to streets and staged a protest against the forces for an attempt to set on fire the residential houses at Gandibagh village.
“We have seen army and their vehicle during midnight while trying to set ablaze the residential house of the Jaish-e-Mohammad Militant Adil Ahmad by putting a heap of grass outside the house and also sprinkled kerosene to the windowpanes,” the protesters said.
Besides, the residential house of Adil, the army accompanied by the SOG also tried to set on fire other residential houses but the timely intervention of the locals prevented what could have been a disaster for the village, they said.
SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary told GNS that police has taken cognizance of the incident.
“We have lodged an FIR into the incident and further investigation was taken up to ascertain those involved in trying to set residential houses on fire,” SSP said.
Meanwhile, army spokesperson termed the allegations as baseless and an attempt to malign the image of the army.
“The allegations levelled against the army is far from the truth,” he said.
