SRINAGAR Minister for Higher Education, Technical Education and Information Technology, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari today paid a surprise visit to Government College for Women, MA Road, Srinagar.
The purpose of the visit was to interact with students and know the ground realities and problems being faced by them.
The Principal of the college, Prof Shaheen Altaf among other staff members interacted with the minister and appraised him about the functioning of the college. The minister asked the Principal to solve the issues raised by the students. He also assured the students that their issues regarding accommodation, cleanliness, sanitation and water supply would be taken up by the departments concerned.
The minister was told that the administrative block, Music department and human development department was to be refurbished to which minister assured all possible help.
“I visited the colleges to test general awareness of students. But as internal examinations were on in the colleges I discussed only problems,” Ansari said. He asked the college authorities to take general awareness courses and conduct debates on latest issues to develop general knowledge and communication skills of students. The common problems in almost all the colleges are shortage of teaching staff and lack of infrastructure. Students are also demanding facilities like Wi-Fi campus, the minister said.
