SRINAGAR In a first, a team of skilled candidates from Jammu and Kashmir will be participating in the regional level skills competition to be held at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from 31st May to 2nd June, 2018 under World Skills India, which is an initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
Minister for Higher Education, Technical Education and Information Technology, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari flagged off the candidates for their participation at the regional level skill competition. The participating candidates will further compete at the national level skill competition which will be held in July, 2018, leading to their participation in the World Skills Competition-Russia, 2019.
World Skills India initiative has been leading the country’s participation at World Skills International competitions since 2011 and is responsible for the selection, development, management and participation of Team India in World Skills International Competitions.
While interacting with the contestants, the Minister said, It is very heartening to see that our youth are participating in the regional skill competition and I am hopeful that the contestants will perform well and bring laurels to the state.
I am also hopeful that they come out with flying colours at the regional level competition, he said.
Pertinently Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Mission (JKSDM) received more than 700 registrations for the initial cluster/base level competition and successful candidates from the base level competitions were further groomed at various reputed institutes across the state for participation in the state level competition.
The J&K contingent for Lucknow regional skill competition comprises of the winners and runner – up candidates of the state level skill competitions which were held between 25th April to 5th May, 2018 in Srinagar and Jammu. In total, 20 contestants will be participating in the already 12 shortlisted skills at the regional level competition which also includes two wild card entries (contestant) in Mobile Robotics and 1 entry in skill set Bakery.
Mission Director, JKSDM, Dr. Peer GN Suhail said, JKSDM has provided rigorous training to the candidates in and outside the State in order to prepare them for regional competition.
I am sure our candidates have immense potential to shine at the regional level competition to participate at National and International levels of this skill competition, he said.
J&K Skill Development Mission, over the period of last 4 months carried out rigorous mobilization and publicity campaigns pertaining to the skill competition and also collaborated with prestigious institutions such as NIT- Srinagar, IHM -Srinagar, Central University, Jammu, NIELIT, SSMD-Baramulla , Arena Animation & Rahim Motors to provide training and guidance to selected candidates for the different levels of skill competition.
At the most recent event, World Skills Competition, 2017 held at Abu Dhabi, there were competitions in 51 skills areas with close to 1,300 young people taking part and India bagged one silver and bronze medal along with 11 medallions of excellence.
The State level winner were felicitated by the Minister for Higher Education, IT and Technical Education, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari, Minister for Finance, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukari during recently held first ever Skill Conclave -Talash, in Srinagar.

Minister for Higher Education, Technical Education and Information Technology, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari today said that in todays global market, businesses have an increasing demand for skill expertise and government was preparing ground to revolutionise the young human resource.
Speaking to a team of skilled candidates from Jammu and Kashmir who will be participating in the regional level skills competition to be held at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from 31st May to 2nd June, 2018 under World Skills India, the Minister said for companies to succeed, they need employees with practical skills and technical knowledge geared to the evolving the skill landscape landscape.
The Minister flagged off the candidates for their participation at the regional level skill competition. The participating candidates will further compete at the national level skill competition which will be held in July, 2018, leading to their participation in the World Skills Competition-Russia, 2019.

We are taking all the efforts to reach out and spot the young entrepreneurs and skilled people and give them further trainings to master their trade, he said, adding over the period of last 4 months, we have carried out rigorous mobilization and publicity campaigns pertaining to the skill competition and also collaborated with prestigious institutions of the State. He said more and more skill competition would be held across the State and the hunt for young minds to give them proper skills.
The Minister expressed satisfaction over the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Mission, saying that the Directorate achieved some remarkable milestones in a very short span of time. He lauded the Mission Director, JKSDM, Dr Peer Ghulam Nabi Suhail, for successfully organising the first ever Skill Conclave Talaash in summer capital Srinagar.
