JAMMU A civilian was critically injured in overnight Pakistani shelling on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place on Wednesday night in Lam area. Muhammad Mishri received a bullet injury.
“He was shifted to a local hospital where doctors referred him to Jammu for specialised treatment,” a police official said.
In the past one week, seven people, including a seven-month-old infant, have been killed and over 50 others injured in unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the LoC.
Infiltration bid foiled in Keran sector
Army on Thursday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A senior army officer based in north Kashmir told GNS that the soldiers manning the fence along Line of Control (LoC) near Gogledara area challenged the movement of a group of infiltrators who tried to sneak into this side in wee hours today.
After being challenged, the officer said, the infiltrators opened fire triggering off a gunfight which continued for several hours.
Following the gunfight, the group of infiltrators was pushed back, the officer claimed.
SSP Kupwara Shri Ram Ambarkar also claimed that the infiltration bid was foiled by army in Gogledara area of Kupwara.
Shelling On LoC Via Uri
After Jammu region, cross-LoC shelling erupted in Uri sector of Kashmir division, an army official said.
He said that Pakistan army last night at around 9:55 pm violated ceasefire by firing from automatic weapons and shelling mortars on several army posts along the line of control (LOC) in Kamal Koot area of Uri Sector in Baramulla district of north Kashmir. The shelling continued till 12:30 am, he said.
The official said that besides attacking several army posts, the Pakistani troops attacked a village close to the border.
However, there was no immediate report of any causality due to the shelling so far.
Meanwhile, local people said that there was panic as people move to safer places and there were also disturbances in offering prayers.
