Army orders court of inquiry against Maj Gogoi
The Army today ordered a court of inquiry against Major Nitin Leetul Gogoi, who was detained by police earlier this week following an altercation when he was trying to enter a hotel with an 18-year-old girl, officials said.
The future course of action would be decided based on the findings of the probe, the officials said.
The decision to order a court of inquiry came shortly after Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat said in Pahalgam that exemplary punishment would be given to Gogoi if he was found guilty “any offence”.
“Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry against Major Gogoi of 53 Rashtriya Rifles regarding an incident that occurred on May 23.If found guilty, appropriate action would be taken against him,” Defence Ministry spokesman, Col Rajesh Kalia said.
Sources also said that Gogoi’s commanding officer is being shifted out for alleged lack of command and control over his subordinates.
They also said that Gogoi has been taken off from field duties and attached to headquarters till the completion of the inquiry.
