SrinagarSenior citizens in Kashmir are incensed at the discriminatory attitude adopted by food and supplies department here in provision of the free rations under the Annapurna scheme announced by the centre recently. Many of them had to return disappointed from the ration depots after the salesmen expressed ignorance about any such orders.
According to reports, the central government has announced grant of 10 kg rice per head per month to the senior citizens above the age of 65 years. The food and supplies department in Jammu have started providing the food grains under the scheme to the eligible senior citizens in the right earnest.
However, intriguingly enough such orders have been issued by the department in Kashmir division. Several senior citizens have accused the higher-ups in the government of withholding the free rations to those eligible in Kashmir. The salesmen at the ration depots here are reported to be clueless about the orders.
