SrinagarCentral University of Kashmir (CUK), Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir today described examination and evaluation as extremely important component of any educational system, especially the university.
Some of the universities in India have come in the news for bad reasons simply because there has been something wrong in the examination and evaluation of the respective universities, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said while addressing the participants on the first of the two day 6th Post End Semester Examination (ESE) workshop organised by the varsitys Examination and Evaluation Wing (EEW) on Assessment Examination Evaluation: Issues and Challenges, at Nowgam-I academic block of the varsity.
He said that nobody will be satisfied with the marks given by the evaluators. However, the matter of concern is when the student approaches the authorities in the university and quotes relevant evidence (study material), questioning the less number of marks given to him and once the paper is revaluated, certain discrepancies have been found, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said. He said the basic purpose of holding the workshop was to sensitise the faculty members about the importance of examination and evaluation, adding that when the faculty members are assigned the task of conducting the examination and subsequent evaluation, they have to be fair and honest.

To discuss the success or the objectives formulated, whether they have been achieved or not during the examinations is really wonderful and I congratulate the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir for this, Prof. Khan added.
Prof. R S Khan said that those attending the workshop will be benefited from the discussions during the workshop and it will add up to their knowledge and way of thinking.
