SrinagarWaseem Makhdoomis goal in the second half proved to be the difference as Accountant General’s (AG’s) XI beat Iqbal Sports in their Premier Division match of State Football League 2017 played at Synthetic Turf TRC Ground, a statement from Jammu and Kashmir Football Association said on Saturday.
Right from the start of the play, both the teams were determined to take an early lead and stamp their authority on the match. However, the defence lines of both the teams kept the forwards at bay. Despite getting several scoring chances, both the teams failed to take a lead in the first half.
After the break, AG’s XI changed the strategy and it paid immediate dividends when Waseem Makhdoomi managed to breach the defence lines of Iqbal Sports and score an all important goal for his team. After trailing by a goal, Iqbal Sports players launched several counter attacks on opposite goal post. However, every time they failed at the fininsh line. The last ten minutes of the high voltage match saw players from both the teams attacking each others goal post frequently. However, when the referee blew the final whistle the score line read 1-0 in favour of AG’s team.
The quality and the speed of the football displayed by the two evenly matched teams enthralled large number of spectators, who had thronged the venue. Shahnawaz of AG’s XI was declared as payer of the match for his performance.
The State Football League, a mega event first of its kind in the history of J&K football, is going on at different venues of the state with full swing drawing huge crowds to the football venues.
While B-Division League of State Football League is already completed with IFC Nowgam winning the title, the A-Division League has reached to the final stage with Fort View FC and Novelty FC qualifying for final. J&K Bank Academy has qualified for the Premier Division League after it finished at the top of points table in Super Division League.
More than 500 football teams and clubs with over 12000 players and over 1500 team officials are participating in the mega event, the aim of which is to unearth the hidden talent across the State. The event is being held across the 22 districts of the state these days and is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) under the auspices of State Sports Council and on the directions of All India Football Federation (AIFF).
