SrinagarUnderscoring the need to start searching for innovative ideas across the Kashmir Valley, the founder of Honey Bee Network and Executive Vice-Chairman, National Innovation Foundation of India (NIF), Prof. Anil Kumar Gupta today said the total number of patents filed in innovations in Kashmir is only 57, which is dismal, when compared with other states of India.
Addressing the faculty and students during a special lecture on Innovations organized by the Department of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK), at Nowgam-I academic campus block here, Prof. Gupta said there is a huge potential for innovations in Kashmir. Referring to the Shodh Yatra (a journey of exploration) supported by the Government of India, which was started in Kashmir from 27th of October to 2nd of November 2017, he said that in this Yatra, he explored many innovative ideas in the far flung areas of Kashmir. I would say that if those ideas are turned into reality, they would make the best innovations, he added. He said that there are ideas in little minds, which needs to be mentored. Prof. Gupta asked the Innovative Club of the DSW to start searching for the innovative ideas in all the sectors.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that innovation is a spark that ignites from within and we need to have the courage to deliver it. He announced that the varsity through DSW shall institute an award for best innovators of the valley.
Dean, Applied Sciences Kashmir University, Chairman Gain/NIF Cell, Prof. Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat deliberated upon the need to Increase the number of patents in Kashmir and Elaborated the role of the NIF (KU) with regard to the identifying the innovators from all the corners of the valley.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, said the DSW is taking several measures to build up scientific temper among the students and best ideas are invited for proper encouragement and assistance by the university.
Coordinator innovations, Dr. John K Babu, conducted the programme proceedings and also presented the vote of thanks.
